The big thing in our house at the moment is aesthetics - my two girls (11 + 13) are both completely obsessed with them. I haven’t quite figure out exactly what they are but as best I can tell, it’s what we would call ‘a Mood’

I managed to find the Aesthetics Wiki page, because of course there’s one of those. And it goes on to tell me:

Aesthetics have now come to mean a collection of images, colors, objects, music, and writings that creates a specific emotion, purpose, and community. It is largely dependent on personal taste, cultural background, and exposure to different pieces of media. This definition is not official and can be debated. There is currently no dictionary definition that captures the complexity of this phenomenon, which arose in the Internet youth. Rather, people who participate in the community "know it when they see it."

Seems to be it’s the newest way of finding your thing. I have been advised by those who know much better than me, that I resemble ‘vibrant academia’ and having looked it up, it’s definitely a mood. I agree.

The girls don’t seem to have found theirs yet. 13 is trying on hobbies, interests, looks and personalities and is very much in the middle of figuring out who she is. She definitely likes history - that’s been a constant for a couple of years now, and the current hobby du jour is sewing. She said something about ‘dark academia’

11 is currently into all things mythology, fairy tale and folklore and loves to read - especially Percy Jackson. She’s ‘hellenic’, or so I have been told.

One thing is for sure, there’s never a dull day with these two!
